Jane Pugh born 1915, birth certificate

Born 26 June 1915 at 221 Caernarvon Road, Bangor

Daughter of Evan Pugh and Cissie Ann Pugh (formerly Evans). The occupation of Evan Pugh is given as "Assurance District Manager".

The informant is given as "E. Pugh, father of Bryn Aber, South Road, Caernarvon."

Registered on 29th July 1935 on"the authority of the Registrar General." A birth that has not been registered within 3 months of its occurrence requires the written authority of the Registrar General before it can be registered. The Registrar General will investigate the matter. If the birth was recent this may be cleared quite quickly but if the birth took place years before they may require a ‘qualified informant’, that is, someone alive at the time of the birth who can give information as a witness.

The father’s name can be added to the birth certificate at a date after the original registration. The Registrar will help you to do this but only if there is evidence that the father is the father, for example, a signed declaration by the mother.

Evan Pugh appears to have been touchy about the families certificates. Chris Sutton says " No one in the family had seen any birth certificates because Grandpa destroyed them all. Uncle Emry's was caught looking in his father's desk one day at certificates and beaten within an inch of his life." Apparently Jane Pugh's birth details had been a closely guarded secret for many years. When Chris Sutton stumbled over it and asked his mother Mair who knew nothing about it. Mair started asking her sibblings Emrys and Rhiannon. Emry's seemed to know as a result of the beating, but was afraid to say anything. Rhiannon knew as she was the self appointed custodian of this secret. Mair being so much younger than the rest was not allowed to know. When Chris Sutton started asking questions and had evidence to prove it, his Aunt and Uncle got rather heated about it and he had to apologise.

So I applied for a birth certificate of Jane Evans born June 1915, with a mother Evans and back comes

Hello

Thank you for your reply. I am aware that the birth was re-registered. I require the original registration

The Jane Pugh is my mother, who died two years ago. I can give you the references to her birth, her parents marriage, her marriage and my birth if you need those. She was an illegitimate child, and was re-registered when she was 20 as she needed a birth cert to go into nursing. I already have her original certificate, and I am now applying for her original cert.

The purpose is only genealogical and would not be used for any official purpose.

The birth was re-registered on 29 July 1935 by her father Evan Pugh and mother Cissie (Elizabeth) Ann Evans. They married in 8 August 1919, the child Jane was born in 27 June 1915. I can email you the certs if you require

Trusting that is sufficient for you to release the original certificate. Please let me know if you need further information, as I am certain that i have all that you might need

David Grant
